Spring Term 2012

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was great to see such a full house at our Maths evening on Thursday, and especially good to see so many dads. We had a ‘whistle stop tour’ of our calculation policy, explaining how we use number lines throughout the school. If you missed the evening and would like a copy of the policy, please email / call the office to request one.

The next Pray for Schools event will be from 7:30pm to 8:45pm on Tuesday 15th May at Swaffham Bulbeck Primary School. This is an opportunity for Christians of all denominations to come together and pray for our local schools.

Cherry Hinton Children’s Centre will be running a Sleep Clinic on Tuesday, 8th May from 10.30 - 12.00pm. This is a friendly drop in for any parent/carer who would like advice on their child's sleep. So if you have a "Late Settler", a "Middle of the Night Screamer", a "Difficult to Get out of Bed Child", an "Early Riser" or maybe all of these, then do go along for an opportunity to discuss your problem with a health professional and talk to other parents/carers with similar experiences.

We are getting ready to start a Spanish After School Club for the Summer Term, which  will run on Thursdays between 3.15 to 4.15pm, starting on 17th May 2012. It will be conducted by Spanish Amigos Cambridge, and it is available for all children attending the school. If you are interested in your child joining the club please return the enrolment form (which is being sent home today) to Spanish Amigos Cambridge, or leave it at the school reception in an envelope clearly marked 'Spanish Amigos Cambridge' by Friday 11th May 2012. You can find more information at http://www.spanishamigos.co.uk

We are pleased to report that some keen children have reached New York City already – in other words, they have completed Journey 1 on their Reading Miles Passport. Each week this term the newsletter will contain ‘Bite Size’ hints to help keep your reading experiences varied. Share your favourite childhood stories:Think back to when you were a child and the stories that have stayed with you throughout the years. One will probably have had a big impression on you, so why not share it with your child? It might be something completely new to them or it could be a book that they love too, a classic such as Where the Wild Things Are. You don’t need to have a copy to hand either; you could tell it from memory and have some fun making it exciting, funny, sad or intriguing.

Don’t forget that we will not be at school on Monday – the Bank holiday promises to be of the traditional British variety, i.e. wet and cold, but we hope you enjoy it nevertheless.

Best Wishes,

Elizabeth Jenkin,

This week’s eco tip:  One simple way to make weeding easier is to tackle the project after a rainstorm: Roots are far easier to pull from wet ground.
